A 49 year old Sydney man has been charged over the attempted abduction of a 14 year old girl on Sydney’s north shore and a 6 year old girl in South Turramurra.

It is alleged that the offender threatened the 14 year old girl with a knife after grabbing her on a footbridge at Westleigh in April. The girl broke free and was able to alert authorities of the incident.

Police also allege that the same man had previously attempted to kidnap a 6 year old girl in February at a South Turramurra netball court.

The accused was arrested in a Castle Hill home on Sunday by members of the Sex Crimes Squad and then charged with crimes ranging from kidnapping to weapons offences.

Commander of the Sex Crimes Squad, John Kerlatec, expressed that it was only after extensive public assistance that the arrest was made.

“Police made numerous appeals to the public whilst investigating these matters and I applaud those many people who came forward to assist us with information,” he said.

The man is due to front the Parramatta Local Court on Monday.
